There will also be communal facilities, such as a residents' lounge and a laundry, and usually there will also be a restaurant. Domestic support will also be available on site.
Extra care sheltered housing offers you the opportunity of retaining your independent lifestyle whilst giving you the reassurance of knowing that your personal care and support needs are capable of being met in your own home. Pocklington Place is a modern, purpose-built extra care sheltered housing service designed specifically for people aged over 55 with sight loss. It is located in Northfield, Birmingham. Owned by Midland Heart Housing Association and managed by Pocklington, the accommodation comprises 64 one and two bedroom apartments, available for rent, outright sale or shared ownership.
We have a specialist care and support team who are trained to understand the needs of people with sight loss. Staff are available around the clock in order to respond to your planned and emergency care and support needs.
We have worked to develop an Outcomes Star for people with a visual impairment and we are currently piloting this tool. By using the Star with our service users we aim to improve the way we support people in achieving their personal goals and needs.
All services offered at Pocklington Place are provided to a high standard, based on the essential government standards which are enforced by the Care Quality Commission.

Pocklington Place comprises 52 single-person studio flats, and 12 two-person flats, each fitted with an alarm call system linked to support staff.
All apartments and communal areas have lighting, colour contrasting decorations, signs and fittings designed for people with sight loss, and bathrooms have handrails and bathing aids.

Pocklington Place is in Chatham Road, Northfield, Birmingham. It is close to Northfield shopping centre, where there is a post office, banks and local church as well as a good variety of general shops.

Charges at Pocklington Place are made up of rent, support charge and charges for heating, hot water and sewerage. The support charge will depend on your needs assessment. All other charges are fixed from 1 April each year.
You may be eligible for benefits for rent and support charges. Staff will help you apply for these benefits when you are offered a flat.
All payments must be made monthly by standing order.

Applying to live at Pocklington Place is easy. You can do this in a number of ways:
- Apply by telephone on 0121 476 4161. Our staff will post you an application pack or will arrange a time to complete a form with you on the phone.
- Apply by email to Pocklington Place. Our staff will email an application form for you to complete and return by post direct to Pocklington Place.
Email your completed form to email@example.com and our staff will contact you to arrange a time for a more detailed conversation.
Once we have made initial contact, staff will arrange to meet you to assess your needs. If your needs can be met by Pocklington Place, you will be offered a flat (or a place on the waiting list if none are available). Our eligibility criteria are available on request – but you will only be eligible for housing with us if you also require some care and/or support.
