What's on offer at the Stourbridge Resource Centre?
At Stourbridge Resource Centre we run a day service three days each week, on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. We offer local people with sight loss the opportunity to make new friends, pursue hobbies and learn new skills in a welcoming and supportive environment. All our staff and volunteers are trained to understand the needs of people with sight loss. The activities on offer include: - Arts and crafts
- IT tuition
- Keep fit
- Trips and outings
- Book club
- Talks on subjects such as local history
- Music workshops
Black Country Talking Newspaper and Magazine
Pocklington volunteers and staff produce a free weekly Talking Newspaper and a monthly magazine in audio format to people with sight loss in the Dudley area.
Resources and information
We have a wide range of equipment designed for people with sight loss for you to try, along with information on many aspects of sight loss, including eye conditions and services available.
We have an IT suite equipped with broadband access and text to speech software. We also run IT classes for those who want to learn more and provide on-site support.
We have Braille equipment so that we can transcribe documents from ordinary text into Braille.
Home support services
Our specially trained volunteers offer support in the community for people with sight loss. Our befrienders can accompany you on shopping trips and outings. If you prefer to stay at home, you can get help with reading correspondence or newspapers and magazines, play a game of cards or just chat over a cup of tea.
Our trained volunteers can help you with correspondence such as letters and bills, and provide assistance with reading magazines and books. They can record onto tape any information so that you can deal with it later and can write letters and cards for you. Our volunteers will visit you in your home at a time to suit you.
