Pocklington Court: Roehampton, London

Pocklington Court is a supported housing centre for people with sight loss. Located in Roehampton in South West London, the centre offers self-contained accommodation in a range of studio and one-bedroom flats, with the support of a team of trained staff.

Housing, care and support

Accommodation at Pocklington Court is provided in 52 single-person studio flats, and 12 two-person flats. Each flat is fully self-contained and specifically designed for people with sight loss.

Additional communal facilities include a lounge, dining room, guest suite, and laundry, with a reception service and shop facility provided on site. We also provide on-site maintenance support so that we can respond quickly to breakages and other problems.

Large, accessible landscaped gardens with a summer house provide a safe outdoor environment and walking area, and a dog pen is provided for the use of guide dogs.

The supported housing services provided at Pocklington Court allow tenants to combine secure, self-contained accommodation with practical support from staff for all aspects of daily living. Staff are available on reception each day to provide help with mail, to assist with routine support needs and to help tenants access other services such as GP surgeries and home care.

Four different levels of support package are available to allow you to purchase the level of support you genuinely want and need, with the option of reviewing your package regularly should your support needs change. Support staff are on site all the time, and can help with a wide range of tasks:

  • Reading and correspondence
  • Orientation and mobility
  • Making appointments and contacting others
  • Accessing education or work
  • Developing basic skills in the home
  • Getting out and about
  • Dealing with bills and payments
  • Arranging medication.

Support services at Pocklington Court are provided under contract to Wandsworth Council's Supporting People Team.

Personal care is not provided at this centre, although staff will always respond to your needs in a genuine emergency. Staff at Pocklington Court have excellent links with the local GP and nursing teams, with the Wandsworth Home Care Team and with a range of other specialist agencies.

All services offered at Pocklington Court are provided to a high standard, based on national standards of best practice. Our key aim is to enable people with sight loss to live full, active and independent lives, and we value the views and involvement of tenants at all times.

Recreation and activities

A varied programme of social activities is on offer each day in our well-equipped lounge for those tenants that wish to socialise with others in a supported environment, with additional events and outings arranged on occasion.

The local area

Pocklington Court is based in Roehampton in South West London, close to a range of local facilities. Just three miles west of Putney and adjacent to the A3, the centre is easily reached from the M25, M3 and M4. The area is well served by local public transport to Kingston, Putney and Hammersmith all of which have excellent facilities.

Charges at Pocklington Court

Charges at Pocklington Court are made up of rent, support charge and charges for heating, hot water and sewerage. The support charge will depend on your needs assessment. All other charges are fixed from 1 April each year.

You may be eligible for benefits for rent and support charges. Staff will help you apply for these benefits when you are offered a flat.

All payments must be made monthly by standing order.

Becoming a tenant

Applying to live at Pocklington Court is easy. You can do this in a number of ways:

  • Apply by telephone on 020 8789 1893
    Our staff will post you an application pack or will arrange a time to complete a form with you on the phone.
  • Apply by email to Pocklington Court
    Our staff will email you an application form for you to complete and return by post direct to Pocklington Court.

Once we receive your form, staff will arrange to meet you to assess your needs. If your needs can be met by Pocklington Court, you will be offered a flat (or a place on the waiting list if none are available). Our eligibility criteria are available on request – but you will only be eligible for housing with us if you also require some support.

The amount of support you need will be worked out with you when we offer you a flat. We know that many people need more support when they first move, so we will normally agree your support for six weeks and then review this with you. The amount you pay will depend on your support needs assessment.
