Housing and support

Accommodation at Pocklington Lodge is provided in 23 single person studio flats, 23 one-bedroom two person flats, 2 two-bedroom three person flats and a three-bedroom five person bungalow, each specially designed for people with sight loss.

Each flat has a separate kitchen and bathroom, and two- and three-person flats have separate sitting rooms and bedrooms also. All kitchens are fully equipped with cookers and refrigerators. Communal facilities include a lounge, a guest suite and a well-equipped laundry which tenants are free to use. A large patio area with seating and pergola provides an attractive outdoor area, and guide dog pen is available for those who need this facility. Each flat, and all communal facilities, have lighting, colour contrasting decorations, signs and fittings designed to help people with sight loss.

Support staff are there to promote and encourage independent living, and all staff receive visual awareness training and are professionally trained to understand the needs of people with sight loss. Each flat can be linked to a central emergency control if tenants choose to take advantage of this facility. Alternatively, there is a 24-hour response service via the office telephone number.

All services offered at Pocklington Lodge are provided to a high standard, based on national standards of best practice. Our key aim is to enable people with sight loss to live full, active and independent lives, and we involve tenants in the quality and development of our services. An active tenants' association meets regularly with the centre manager, and contributes to the work of the wider organisation.

Recreation and activities

Occasional social events are arranged for tenants who are interested.

Tenants at Pocklington Lodge are also welcome to use the facilities provided by our resource centre in Balham, which also hosts a variety of events – please see our events calendar for further information.
