Accommodation and care facilities in Wolverhampton are provided through two centres, one offering sheltered housing and the other offering supported housing services.
- Lord Street
This sheltered housing centre at Lord Street provides 14 flats for people with sight loss and other sensory and/or physical disabilities. Extensive consultation with people with physical/sensory disabilities informed the development of the centre, and all accommodation is designed to support the needs of people with sight loss. The scheme means eligible people can have their own private flat giving them a level of independence many people with a sensory or physical disability can only dream of. A team of specially trained staff are on hand to provide tenants with care and support 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and all staff receive visual awareness training and are professionally trained to understand the needs of people with sight loss.
The flats were commissioned by Wolverhampton City Council, built by Midland Heart Housing Association and are managed by Thomas Pocklington Trust with funding from the Housing Corporation.
- Newhampton Road East
Pocklington is the managing agent for six supported housing flats in Newhampton Road East in partnership with Midland Heart Housing Association. Accommodation is designed for people between the ages of 16 and 60 with visual impairment who wish to lead an independent life, and only require low levels of support in order to do so. Accommodation is provided in an apartment block, with all flats designed to meet the needs of people with sight loss and other sensory disabilities. Tenants have access to on-site support from staff during the day, and are also supported by a dedicated support worker who can provide other assistance as required.
All services offered by Thomas Pocklington Trust are provided to a high standard, based on national standards of best practice. Our key aim is to enable people with sight loss to live full, active and independent lives, and we involve residents in the quality and development of our services.
