Our research aims to:
- contribute, in a tangible way, to the cure, prevention and alleviation of visual impairment
- promote best practice in service provision and the development of innovative solutions to address the changing needs and expectations of people with visual impairment
- raise the profile of and promote the work of the Charity.
Our research findings are used to inform Pocklington's own service development and delivery, as well as extending knowledge about visual impairment both in the specialist sector and wider community. We hope that through a continual process of research, development, evaluation and implementation, our research will directly benefit people with sight loss across the UK, and beyond.
Our research and development programme focuses on three key themes:
- Improving social inclusion, independence and quality of life
- Improving and developing services
- Public health issues, including prevention of blindness and promotion of eye health.
There are a range of research and development projects running under each theme, and each project typically produces a range of publications, in the form of research findings, discussion papers, occasional papers and, increasingly, good practice guides. Our publications are generally freely available via this site, and in hard-copy if required.
Our forthcoming research newsletters, along with those of our partner organisation Vision 2020 UK, aim to disseminate findings and good practice further still.
We work with a range of partners, and welcome proposals for independent and collaborative research and development initiatives. From time to time we look to external research and development partners for knowledge, skills and expertise in policy, practice and research across health, housing and social care.
