Our volunteer services provide support to people with sight loss to enable them to access services and participate in activities and events that help them maintain full and active lives.

Link Up

Link Up offers a unique opportunity for people with sight loss to access social and leisure events and activities with the support of one of our friendly volunteers. Our volunteers are happy to provide guiding support, companionship and audio describe for the people they are supporting so that vision impaired people can enjoy London.

Activities appropriate for Link Up might include:

  • Exhibitions and Museums
  • Sports
  • Theatre & Cinema
  • Walks – explore a London park, market, places of interest
  • Concerts
  • Clothes shopping

Link Up members can make a volunteer request by contacting our Link Up Coordinator Katrina Sheppard with details of the activity/event they would like to attend. The opportunity is then circulated to our bank of trained volunteers who enjoy a variety of hobbies and interests.

If you are interested in becoming a member of our Link Up service, contact Katrina on 07773582708 or volunteering@pocklington-trust.org.uk.

Volunteer pool

Our Events and Activity Volunteer Pool supports our associated local charities to provide social, leisure, information and advice services in their local communities across London. The activities are mostly arranged and attended by staff from the local charities and can be quite varied by event, time and location. Recently, activities have included kayaking in the Docklands, a day trip to Buckingham Palace and salsa dancing in Southwark.

Our dedicated Events and Activity Volunteers meet and greet service users at transport links, guide them to the event and support them to fully access the activity as a group. They might also support the teams at information meetings and awareness raising events. This opportunity allows volunteers to try something new each week while helping a visually impaired person to gain confidence and independence.

Let’s Go Out

We produce the monthly newsletter ‘Let’s Go Out’ to help people with sight loss find accessible activities and events taking place around London. The newsletter includes exhibitions, theatre, sport, dance and more activities. Some of these are designed particularly to enable access for people with sight loss, while all of them will be accessible with a volunteer guide. People can use our Link Up service to arrange volunteers to attend events with you. If you want to receive the Let’s Go Out newsletter, email Courtney.Nugent@pocklington-trust.org.uk to be added to the mailing list. We are also able to offer the newsletter in CD format.
