About this volunteer role

Volunteer Role: IT Class Assistant

Location: Balham Resource Centre

Accountable to: Volunteer Co-ordinator

Accountable for: None

Function:

To support the class tutor as instructed and required.To provide one to one support for class members when required.

Key Tasks:

  • To help individuals to fully participate in the class providing support as required by the individual
  • To assist in escorting members in to the Centre from the mini-bus or taxi
  • To assist class members to use the Centre facilities such as preparing drinks
  • To assist the class members with the basic applications of Microsoft Word and to access the internet
  • To assist with the use of technical equipment such as computers, scanners and printers with the approval of the class tutor
  • To assist the tutor in preparing and tidying the class rooms ready for use.
  • To be aware of the Centre’s Health and Safety Standards and assist the tutor to maintain an appropriate level of safety
  • To attend appropriate planning meetings and training sessions

Training Provided:

  • Full induction
  • Visual Awareness

Key Skills/Experience/Attributes Required:

  • Be able to work as part of a team
  • Punctuality and reliability in attending library sessions
  • Be able to give clear verbal instructions
  • Have a good sense of humour
  • Be able to demonstrate good listening skills and patience
  • Ability to understand the issues faced by individuals with sight loss
  • Non-judgemental and able to treat people with respect
  • Have an interest in supporting people in the community
  • Have basic computer literacy in Microsoft applications

Special Requirements:

A willingness to work in an environment with guide dogs. References and a Criminal Records Bureau check will be required for all volunteer roles.
