Accountable to: Volunteer Co-ordinator
Accountable for: None
Function: To organise and facilitate newspaper and book readings at the Centre.
Key tasks: Responsible for all aspects of organising each session and setting up the room where the activity will take place. Collect variety of newspapers to read (to be decided by collaboration with the group), to read through articles of interest to people in the group. Contribute ideas towards the overall activities programme. If you enjoy reading papers and magazines, are happy to read aloud and like the idea that you will be making a real difference to people’s lives, this is the ideal opportunity for you.
Key skills, experience and attributes required: Excellent organisational skills with the ability to work without close supervision where appropriate. Reliable, confident and responsible individuals, with enthusiasm and effective interpersonal skills. A good team player, with effective communication skills. Have an interest in working with people who have a variety of abilities. Must be sensitive and understanding of the needs of people who have sight loss.
Special requirements: Clear and loud speaking voice in order to be heard by all taking part. A willingness to work in an environment with guide dogs. References and a Criminal Records Bureau check will be required for all volunteer roles.
