Volunteer Role: Shopping Assistants
Location: The Hammersmith and Fulham borough
Accountable to: Senior Support Worker
Accountable for: None
Function: Meet service users on a weekly basis at the local shopping centre and help them to do their shopping.
Keys Tasks:
- To meet service users either at the Centre or at the shops
- Describe the shop’s layout and help service users to get oriented in the shops
- Assist the service users to find the product/s they wish to purchase
- Reading the labels
- Assist service users paying at the till
Training Provided:
- Full Induction
- Visual Awareness
Key Skills/Experience/Attributes Required:
- Be self-motivated and willing to assist people with sight loss
- Ability to understand the issues faced by individuals living with sight loss
- Non-judgemental and able to treat people with respect
- Have an interest in supporting people in the community
- Have a good sense of humour
- Be honest and trustworthy
- Reliable and punctual
Special Requirements:
A willingness to work in an environment with guide dogs. References and a Criminal Records Bureau check will be required for all volunteer roles.
