I am delighted that Keith Valentine, Thomas Pocklington Trust’s Deputy Chief Executive, has been appointed as Chief Executive of Vision UK, the new unified umbrella body for the Eye Health and Sight Loss Sector. This is an exciting new chapter in collaboration across the sector, bringing together some of the organisations that have been working side-by-side but separately until now.

It’s something that I have personally been working hard to achieve over the last few months and I’m delighted to see it now coming to fruition. This is only the beginning of this exciting new chapter and there will be many more conversations taking place across the sector to take this forward and I look forward to engaging with everybody on it.

The next step will be when Keith chairs the Vision UK 2017 Conference on 15th June. I am looking forward to seeing a lot of people from across the whole sector at the conference where we will cement the progress we have made so far with the vision strategy and develop more plans for the future. I am also looking forward to participating in a panel discussion, ‘Achieving change, together’, on collaborative work at the conference.

Keith’s first task at Vision UK will be to lead the preparation of the initial business plan for Vision UK. We anticipate that this will guide and be prepared in tandem with the update of the TPT strategy and that it will guide our work from next year and beyond. At the moment, we anticipate that TPT’s vision, mission and values are likely to remain unchanged. Our provisional list of the emerging draft priorities, however, is evidence, advocacy, networks, rehabilitation, employment and technology. I look forward to discussing these with people over the coming months and if anyone thinks there is anything obvious missing from the list I look forward to them telling me about it!

On another note, I’m sorry that I was unable to attend the 2017 TPT Volunteer Awards ceremony as part of Volunteers’ Week (1-7 June) on Monday 5th June but I have heard that it was a great success! I would like to add my personal thanks to the sterling efforts of all of our volunteers and indeed our volunteering team. I look forward to many more similar events.
