A Career in the Civil Service: What’s Involved

Katy, blind from birth, embarked on her journey with the UK Civil Service in 2006. Over the years, she has held various policy roles covering health, fire, crime, policing, and climate change, where she collaborated closely with the EU.

Our Senior Employment Manager, Martin Sigsworth, sat down with Katy to gain insight into her life as a policy civil servant and discuss the different opportunities within the civil service beyond the conventional graduate-level entry.

Katy, an active member of the vision-impaired civil service network, shared her insights on overcoming the common challenges she experienced before and during her employment journey. These challenges included securing her job and effectively using assistive technology in the workplace.
