Celebrating volunteers this December
We want to shine a light on how our volunteers are enabling blind and partially sighted people to live the life they want to lead. Come, join us in celebrating these amazing volunteers this December.
Celebrating Sight Loss Councils on International Day of People with Disabilities
3 December is International Day of People with Disabilities and we will be running activities for our Sight Loss Council to celebrate their successes.
Most importantly, we want to thank Sight Loss Council members for their commitment over this very challenging year. Volunteers continued to influence positive local and regional change across their six priority areas of Education, Employment, Health, Technology, Transport and Sport and Leisure and contributed to our active campaigns: #Distancing Blind and Streets For All.
You can read about their work on our volunteer stories page on the Sight Loss Council website.
Celebrating International Volunteer Day – 5 December 2020
On International Volunteer Day, we want to say a huge thank you to all our brilliant volunteers who are making an incredible difference to the lives of blind and partially sighted people.
CEO of Thomas Pocklington Trust, Charles Colquhoun said: “I want to say a heartfelt thank you to all our volunteers in what has been an extraordinary and challenging year. Volunteers are crucial to helping us achieve our vision and strategy and we couldn’t achieve our work without volunteers.”
Charles has recorded a special message for our volunteers and you can listen to it here. Click here for a transcript of this recording.
Many volunteers offered to share their skills with us as the world went virtual this year and have contributed to our work in many different ways. For example, raising awareness and improving employability for blind and partially sighted people through webinars and filmmaking.
