A tribute to Patricia Powell
It is with great sadness we announce that Patricia Powell, a former trustee and the last family link with Thomas Pocklington, passed away on 19 February 2021. This was shortly before her 102nd birthday.
Pat, as she was known, was the wife of John Powell, the nephew by marriage of Thomas Pocklington. She was a trustee for some 25 years before retiring in 2008 when she became a patron. She provided great support for her husband as he managed the property assets left to the trust by Thomas Pocklington and then her son, Rodney, who chaired the trust for 26 years following the deaths of his father and brother.
Pat was always immaculately turned out and made a point of talking to staff whenever she visited the office. When Thomas Pocklington Trust (TPT) had five housing centres around the country Pat and Rodney made a tour every year in December to attend all the Christmas parties. Pat would take a great interest in how the residents were doing and would report back any concerns to the management with a clear expectation that action would be taken.
Mervyn Williamson, current TPT Chair, added: “Pat made an enormous contribution to Thomas Pocklington Trust along with her husband and both sons. Her passing marks the end of the link between the Powell family and the charity which lasted 86 years so is a sad time for all involved with the organisation.”
