Can you spare a few hours?

Volunteering can be a stepping stone into employment. It looks great on CVs, particularly for those just starting out in their careers who need to show work experience. And it is a way to meet new people and make new friends.

We have a variety of volunteering opportunities for blind and partially sighted people at Thomas Pocklington Trust.

But there are also opportunities outside of TPT

The Talking News Federation (TNF) is actively looking for volunteers.  This brilliant charity supports more than 300 local Talking Newspapers to deliver local news and information in audio to 25,000 listeners.

Heather Bolton, Editor of TNF Soundings at the Talking News Federation, said:

“Talking news is such an essential service for many people who can no longer read printed material.

“We want to encourage people to volunteer either locally for the talking newspaper in their areas or for us in our UK-wide audio library service.”

As a TNF volunteer you could get involved in:

  • Editing, recording or reading information for Talking Newspapers or helping with public relations/ marketing
  • Finding, curating, scheduling or checking editorial content to inform and entertain listeners
  • Administration – for example, preparing Talking Newspaper USB sticks for postal distribution.

Most roles can be done in a few hours a week or once a month.

Can you spare a few hours?  Whether it is for talking news, your local sight loss charity or for another cause that is close to your heart – volunteering makes such a positive impact and can change your life too.
