SEND Education Reforms

The Department for Education (DfE) has now announced what changes to special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) education will look like and how these changes will be made.

In their ‘SEND and alternative provision improvement plan’, they have said they will continue to speak with children, young people and their parents and carers on how best to implement their plans. We welcome changes to try and simplify the system, but we are concerned about what these changes will mean for blind and partially sighted children and young people in education.

To inform our work, we continue to gather information and evidence to better understand the experiences of blind and partially sighted students and how special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) provision is delivered. We continue to provide feedback to DfE, through meetings, forums and consultations.
