Step six: know your tech

Technology can be a game-changer when it comes to accessing your education. There are many different pieces of equipment out there that can solve many challenges and barriers blind and partially sighted people face in their lives. This could be software that makes your computer screen bigger and easier to see (magnification software), software that reads out to you what is on your screen (a screen reader), equipment that can allow you to read braille from electronic sources such as computers, special cameras that can scan books and turn them into formats that you can read and much more!

The first step is knowing what technology is out there and how it could help you. So, it is a smart idea to find out what technology is available.

Check out our Accessible technology for students webinar, a handy blog from our tech team and our Education technology page to find out more.

The next step is learning how to use the technology! You can have the best kit on the planet, but you will not get much out of it if you don’t know how it works. So, it is important you are taught how to use any technology you use at school. Your QTVI should be able to help you with this.
