What is a Reader?

A reader is a professional who reads the content of course material aloud to you to assist you with your studies.

How can they support you?

A reader can be used in several ways such as during live sessions to read out course content, assist you with reviewing your own work/proofing, reading and recording content from course reading material and supporting you in assessments and exams.

When used in assessments and exams, they can read the questions and supporting material aloud to you (as many times as you need) and read your own work back to you at your request.

How do you access their support?

A reader can be provided by your university or through your Disabled Students’ Allowance (DSA) support package.

It is a good idea to discuss reader support with your DSA needs assessor and disability adviser to explore the options and establish what support is appropriate for you during your studies.
