Using Your Skillset to Successfully Change Careers

Martin Sigsworth, our Senior Employment Manager, sat down with Charles Coyle to delve into his career journey and uncover the challenges and hurdles Charles encountered. They discussed what’s it like to work in the civil service and Charles shared valuable advice for blind and partially sighted individuals seeking to advance their careers.

Charles has had a varied career path, working in education, the sight loss sector, and now the civil service.

Blind since birth, Charles initially pursued a career in teaching. However, he soon realised his passion lay beyond the classroom and seized every opportunity to change career. After roles at RNIB and TPT he moved into Local Government, where he rapidly ascended the ranks. Today, he is a fully fledged civil servant working in central government.
