Specialist VI Curriculum

Thomas Pocklington Trust has joined forces with RNIBVIEW, and VICTAR to develop a specialist curriculum framework for vision impaired children and young people in the UK.

This framework aims to provide the foundations for children and young people to achieve their educational outcomes.  Education professionals will have access to a central resource hub of peer reviewed materials.

This is a two year project funded by RNIB which aims to provide a framework for professionals working with vision impaired children. The development of this framework will involve consultation with professionals and young people and will be integrated with the academic curriculum.

We’re now at the stage where we are in the process of:

  1. Engaging with professionals across the sector through the sharing of expertise via focus groups to help us develop the curriculum framework. The consultation stage to agree the new framework has now started and an expert panel of professionals, as well as young people and parent/carer representatives, has been selected. We are therefore not seeking any further participants for this stage of the project.
  2. Identifying resources to be included in a free  online hub containing resources to support the specialist VI curriculum that have been developed across the sector within VI services and schools and by individuals.
  3. Training professionals to act as peer reviewers and matching them to resource providers.
